Needless to say that following the introduction of the new drive and the completion of the rebuild our customer lost access to all of their data. Realising their mistake one of the many Data Recovery companies offering RAID 5 Recovery services were contacted to attempt the recovery.
Two weeks later little progress had been made, the firm in question returned the failed array to the customer stating:
"Due to a full rebuild having been carried out on the array, no data is now recoverable. We regret that your data cannot be recovered at any cost, or in any time frame..."
On the 21st October 2008 ExpiData Server Recovery team were contacted in a last ditch attempt by the customer to salvage anything that was possible.
Less than 24 hours later the ExpiData team were able to return 342 GB of useable data from the array - the exact amount that was stored on the array prior to the rebuild. Whats more, the data was 100% free from corruption, all folder hierarchy was maintained and no indication of the problem experienced over two weeks previous remained.
ExpiData do not rely upon readily available software solutions for the recovery of data from failed servers. Instead we create custom scripts using our own in-house cloning technology to remove the areas of the disk damaged or overwritten by the rebuild process. As such ExpiData can literally recover lost data from RAID Arrays that others cannot.
